The Corpse Flower – a plant native to Indonesia that can take about a decade to produce a flower that emits a putrid scent is set to bloom this week at the Toronto Zoo— years ahead of schedule. This will be the first time a Corpse Flower has bloomed in Toronto. Usually these plants bloom between 7 to 10 years of age, but Toronto’s is set to bloom this week at some point for only 8 to 36 hours is only 5 years old.
The plant is said to smell like rotting meat while blooming, which attracts beetles for pollination.
The Toronto Zoo will extend its hours to allow visitors to see the plant and get a big whiff.
Craig and Ian asked you what the worst smell you’ve ever experienced was and you had lots of answers!
