LOVE TEXT is a street art video projection experience – a compelling story that explores LGBTQ2S+ love in the digital world. Participate as ‘voyeur’ by watching audio-visual vignettes unfold on the side of a building in London’s downtown core or step into the dating booth to ‘go on a date’ with Love Text’s central character to explore the humanity of digital dating.
This event will run for 8 days from May 13 through May 20 from 7pm to 11pm as a public art event. The event features a large-scale audio-visual projection on the side of the Info-Tech Research Group building on 345 Ridout St., accompanied by a more intimate projection booth intended for audience interactivity. The video and audio in the booth invites one-on-one interaction with the story unfolding in large-format on the side of the building, and encourages audience members to directly engage with the narrative of LOVE TEXT.
The story of LOVE TEXT is primarily presented through vignettes of a central character, who we see navigate common tropes and experiences of the digital dating world. At turns humorous, emotional, disappointing, and reflective, the video and sound design draw upon the cultural language of dating apps and messaging services to tease out the universal human experience of searching for connection. By stepping into the booth, audience members will be able to engage “directly” with LOVE TEXT’s main character as if they have matched on a dating app, becoming part of the story as it unfolds through interactive prompts intercut throughout the work. Inspired by cutting-edge audio-visual installations and street art projection in major cities like Ottawa and Montreal, CURVEBALL CREATIVE wants to bring this concept to London and take it a step further by presenting an actual narrative in this format. We are also strongly motivated to provide a unique and accessible cultural event to be enjoyed by the public that showcases the modern LGBTQ2S+ experience.
