HELP CREATE A LGBT+ INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE
Participate in the Corporation of the City of London’s Positive Space Champion training program and get inspired to develop a similar program for your workplace!
Recent data shows that only 42% of LGBT+ employees are “out” in their workplace. Those who are, say having a strong network of allies and a supportive environment help them to bring their whole selves to work.
A Positive Space Program creates a network of trained allies to support employees who may be:
· questioning their sexual orientation
· considering “coming out”
· “out” and experiencing difficulties
· considering or in the process of confirming their gender identity
· supporting family members or friends who reflect the above descriptions
· wishing to seek out information about the LGBT+ community, issues and resources
Positive Space Champions complete a training program which provides them with knowledge and resources to effectively respond to potential situations they may be asked to support. Champions display a Positive Space emblem in their workplace as a signal to their colleagues that they can provide a safe and positive environment for open, supportive and confidential conversation. Positive Space Champions do not counsel co-workers, but do empathetically listen and help connect people to appropriate resources within the workplace and community.
